One of the coolest things about smartphones, aside from their general connectivity, is their ability to use apps. As you are probably aware, there is an app for just about everything. But, with all of the apps to choose from, it’s easy to fill up your phone’s internal memory. If your phone is starting to act buggy and you are getting messages about not having enough room, then it’s probably time to uninstall some apps.
Here are the steps for uninstalling an app:
Android
As with all things, there are two ways to uninstall apps via Android. As a note, this will only work with apps you have installed–other apps are referred to as bloatware and cannot be removed. You do have other options for handling bloatware though.
Method 1: From the App Menu
- Scroll until you find the app you wish to uninstall.
- Press and hold the icon as if you are going to place a shortcut on a home screen
- Drag the app to the trashcan at the top that says ‘uninstall’
- When asked if you wish to uninstall, tap ‘Ok’
Method 2: From the Settings
- Open your Settings menu
- Tap “Applications”
- In the ‘Downloaded’ screen, find the app you wish to uninstall
- Tap the app
- Click ‘Uninstall’
- If prompted, click ‘Ok’ to uninstall
iPhone
Unlike Android, there is really only one main way that I know of to uninstall iPhone apps. Much like Android, default iPhone apps (like iTunes or Facetime) cannot be removed.
- On your home screen, find the app you wish to uninstall
- Press and hold the icon until the apps start to shake and look super nervous. Apps you can remove should have a gray X in the corner.
- Tap the gray X on the app you wish to uninstall
- When prompted, click ‘Delete’
